Provisional License Law

 

                      • The minimum age to obtain a permit is 15 ½ yrs.

                      • The minimum age to obtain a license is 16 yrs.

 

If you are under 18 years of age and would like to obtain

a provisional driver’s license, you must:

 

                      • Must complete a Drivers Education course.

                      • Be at least 15 1/2 years old

                      • Have your parent’s permission

                      • Complete 30 hours of Driver’s Education

                      • Pass permit test

                      • Complete 6 hours of Behind-the-Wheel Training, and receive the Certificate of Completion certificate

                      • Complete 60 hours of supervised driving, 10 hours of supervised driving must be at night.

                      • Have your permit for a minimum of 6 months

                      • Take and pass the Drive Test

 

For the first 1 year after receiving your driver’s license, you are only allowed to carry passengers under age 20 if someone in the car is age 25 or older with a valid California License.

 

If you are over 18 years of age and would like to obtain a driver’s license, you must:

 

                      • Take and pass the permit test

                      • Take and pass the Drive Test

 

Adults must have a learner’s permit to practice driving
